What Is Springerle?

Springerle are a type of German cookie that dates back to the 14th Century. Traditionally square in shape, these unique cookies are baked during the Christmas season, and are distinctively flavoured with anise. The cookies feature a design that is pressed into the dough via a mould or rolling pin. Once baked, these cookies feature a cake-like texture and buttery anise flavour. Springerle moulds are available in a variety of shapes and designs to suit a number of themes.
