Chalet Kissing Couple & Water Wheel - SCHWER - 5.8870.01.p
This traditional chalet style 8 day Cuckoo Clock by August Schwer is a certified German Black Forest cuckoo clock produced in Schwarzwald, commonly known as The Black Forest. Built by craftsmen well known for their carving skills, this clock is a great example of many high quality traditional Black Forest cuckoo clocks. The cuckoo calls the time each hour and then once at half past. This clock also features a music box and plays music on the hour, every hour. The "chalet" style is a Swiss addition to the traditional German hand-carved cuckoo clocks, invented in the 1920's by Zurich Company Lötscher in Switzerland. When the style first came to market they were highly valued as souvenirs, and to this day still hold a prestigious position in the cuckoo clock family.
The "Kissing Couple & Water Wheel" Chalet cuckoo clock features several "automata" or moving mechanics. When the clock calls on every hour, the water wheel turns gently, the dancers spin and turn under the cuckoo, and the couple turn their heads to eachother and kiss as the music plays in the background. The clock has a hand cut shingled roof and is adorned with decorative features representing a mountain chalet scene in the Swiss alps.
