About The Snow Leopard

The snow leopard is a large cat that lives in the high rocky mountains of Central Asia, amongst some of the harshest conditions on Earth. It feeds mainly on sheep, ibex and goats. Their thick white-grey fur spotted with black rosettes blends in perfectly with the snow capped high mountain terrain in Asia. This natural camouflage makes them almost invisible in their surroundings and as such, they are commonly referred to as the ‘ghost of the mountains’. Their thick fur protects it against freezing cold temperatures but its beauty means that many animals fall prey to poachers. That’s why the snow leopard is an endangered species. A special feature is its tail which is nearly as long as its body.
