The Origin of Christmas Gnomes

Christmas Gnomes originated in Scandinavia, known by the name Nisse - a mythical creature in Norse folklore, that roughly translates to goblin. According to tradition, the Nisse live in the houses and barns of a farmstead, and secretly act as the family guardians. If treated well, they protect the entire family including animals from evil and misfortune, and also help with chores. However when offended, they are known for being short tempered, where they will play tricks and steal items, causing chaos in the homestead.
