This handy room climate meter features a synthetic hair hygrometer combined with a bimetallic thermometer to measure indoor climate. How Does a Hygrometer Work?

A hygrometer allows you to measure the relative humidity in %. A hygrometer works with either a synthetic fibre or a real hair as the measuring element, which either expands or contracts as it absorbs moisture. As it absorbs moisture, the hair moves the needle via a fine mechanism. Thanks to a special treatment of the hair, the hygrometer reacts to any change in humidity with almost no inertia.

Synthetic hair is used as the measuring element in this Polar climate meter, which expands with increasing humidity. The humidity-dependent change in length is transferred to the pointer by means of a fine mechanism. Due to a special treatment of the hair, the hygrometer reacts almost inertia-free to any change in humidity. The hygrometer also has a dew point scale. In conjunction with the temperature measurement, the dew point temperature can also be determined.
