In practice, the movement of your arms while swimming or the force of hitting the water creates significantly higher pressure than the depth alone suggests. Consequently, a 10 ATM watch is ideal for surface swimming, snorkelling and casual water sports, but it is not designed for the rigours of scuba diving. For deep-sea diving, a 20 ATM rating is required to ensure the seals can handle the increased force. We also recommend avoiding hot showers or saunas with any watch, as the heat can compromise the water-resistant seal.
