Measuring 35cm in height, this exquisite mechanical mantel clock represents an elegant blend of timekeeping and science. The name Tellurium is derived from the latin word ‘tellus’ which translates to ‘Earth’, and rightly so, as these highly accurate clocks feature intricate designs that showcase the choreography of the Earth, Sun and Moon's rotation in the Solar System in real time as outlined below. 

Whilst the Earth rotates on its own axis once every 24 hours, it also makes a complete orbit around the Sun once every 365 days, represented as a calendar year. At the base of the mechanism is a detailed nickel plated disc that has been polished and engraved with the days and months of the year, as well as the 12 constellations of the zodiac- the Earth will pass around this whole disc over the course of a year. The Earth’s tilt of 23.5 degrees on its axis is accurately represented, as is the Moon's 29.5 day lunar orbit around the Earth, taking the same time to spin around on its axis once. These movements represented in real time serve a timely reminder that the movement of the Earth, Sun and Moon are written into the fabric of our everyday lives.

This tellurium clock features an impressive dial with neat roman numerals and black hands; a separate smaller dial features for the second hand; and a unique skeleton design that allows high visibility into the inner gears that represent motions from 24 hours right down to the seconds, all done in perfect unison with the daily rotation of the Earth. The overall design is made from solid wood with a black piano gloss finish; polished chrome brass columns; and is housed by a curved glass dome, hand made from ‘Schott’ crystal glass. 

This elegant clock is fitted with a high quality mechanical 8-day 4/4 Westminster chime bell strike movement, with 11 jewel Swiss escapement. As this clock is an 8 day striking spring wound mechanism, it features rear mounted chime hammers on polished brass bells, that play the famous Westminster chime quarterly and hourly. As this clock is an 8 day mechanism, it requires winding once a week. To wind the clock you simply insert a key into the holes present in the dial. In addition to these features, the clock also features an automatic night-time shut-off to allow you a sound sleep, as well as a complete chime deactivation setting should that be preferred. The mechanism is finished in nickel plated brass, offering a sturdy finish that will be resistant to tarnishing. The movement and the case are both 100% German made, ensuring an item of high quality.
